• Joins hands with Emirati celebrity Shamma Hamdan to support charity • ‘Make a Difference this Ramadan’ encourages the UAE to donate essential goods to families’ in-need
Dubai, UAE, 1 July 2013 – Majid Al Futtaim Properties and Shamma Hamdan, the first Emirati finalist in the popular Arabs Got Talent show, have partnered to Make a Difference this Ramadan, encouraging residents across the UAE to donate everyday goods to families in-need. The campaign was launched today, at a press conference hosted at the Sheraton Dubai Mall of the Emirates Hotel. A charitable campaign now in its 7th successful year, Make a Difference this Ramadan is dedicated to supporting local and underprivileged communities, and this year Shamma is lending her newfound celebrity influence to promote this worthy initiative.
“Make a Difference this Ramadan is a key charitable initiative organised by Majid Al Futtaim Properties, and the continuing success of this event can be attributed to the generosity of the local community and the support of our valued retail partners”, said Fuad Sharaf, Senior Director – Property Management for Majid Al Futtaim Properties. “The annual initiative has been a significant advocate of Red Crescent’s humanitarian efforts across the UAE, and this year with the talented Shamma Hamdan as the campaign supporter, we are optimistic that donations for this worthwhile cause will be greater than ever”.
The Make a Difference this Ramadan campaign will be supported by Majid Al Futtaim Properties’ six shopping malls in the UAE: Ajman City Centre, City Centre Deira, Fujairah City Centre, Mall of the Emirates, Mirdif City Centre and Sharjah City Centre in addition to its regional malls in Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon and Oman. Throughout the Holy Month, special collection boxes will be placed in key areas of the malls, encouraging shoppers to donate any of four essential items: clothing, books, reading glasses and mobile phones. All collected items will be given to the Red Crescent UAE to be distributed to families in-need.
“The Holy Month of Ramadan is about embracing the values of giving, and I wanted to dedicate my time to a cause that made a worthwhile difference to my home country,” said Shamma Hamdan. “I’m excited to support Majid Al Futtaim Properties for their Make a Difference this Ramadan campaign and encourage residents from across the UAE to donate simple everyday items that can change someone’s life.”
As the supporter to make a Difference this Ramadan in the UAE, Shamma will be making special appearances at the malls throughout Ramadan to raise awareness of the campaign and inspire others to give.
“The Red Crescent UAE has been working closely with Majid Al Futtaim Properties for the last seven years, and through their Make a Difference this Ramadan campaign we have successfully donated tens of thousands of bags to underprivileged families in our communities,” said Mohammad Abdullah Alhaj Al Zarouni, Manager for UAE Red Crescent . “Their support has been critical in raising awareness of our humanitarian works across the UAE and region, and we are hopeful that we will be able to support am even greater number of families in-need this year.”
The Make a Difference this Ramadan charity campaign underscores Majid Al Futtaim Properties’ commitment to humanitarian causes, and is an annual initiative that has witnessed growth every year. Last year, more than 24,040 bags were collected and distributed to the underprivileged through the Red Crescent UAE.
